Deworming Services for Pets

Protect your pet from deadly parasites by deworming them regularly.

Deworming is the process of protecting your pet from intestinal worms or getting rid of worms if your pet is already infected. If left untreated, these slimy creatures can cause anemia, internal organ damage, lethargy and even death. Did you know they can also cause harm not just to your pet but also to you and other people? They can be passed on from pets to humans. Children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable. Fortunately, it is easy to prevent worms in your pets. Call our team at 780-475-9225 to learn more.

What are some types of parasites found in cats and dogs?

For dogs, worms fall into five main categories: heartworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms and roundworms. For cats, the main types of worms are tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms, although they can also get lesser-known parasites like lungworm, liver flukes and bladder worms.

What are signs that a pet has worms?

Although each pet is different, some of the most common symptoms of a worm infestation are lethargy, vomiting, sudden weight loss, diarrhea, stomach pain, pot-bellied appearance, poor coat appearance and dragging/licking of their bottom.

What is a deworming schedule?

This is a series of medications to prevent your pet from catching worms in the first place. Pets need to be dewormed multiple times per year all throughout their life. Call our team to explore the many types of formulations and dosing schedules available for your furry friend.

Is deworming safe for pets?

Yes. After treatment, most pets can go about the rest of their day in a normal fashion. It is a relatively painless procedure. That being said, we do sometimes see minor side effects in some of our patients after they are dewormed. These side effects are usually lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of hair (at the area where the medication is applied, if you opt for a topical cream variant). These side effects subside within a few hours or days.
